Welcome to the home of Mudcrone Clayplay and the ceramic art of Nancy Harlan. The following is a brief description of what you will find on each of the pages. Some of the images on the site have links to other pages which will reveal other views of the pieces or detail images of the piece.

My most recent work, including the work from my MFA show, can be seen at the Free Art page. This includes installation, site specific and interactive work.

The Masters Show page contains ceramic sculpture and sculptural teapots from my Master of Arts show.

The wall statement from this show states:

"My sculpture explores the male/female relationship that results in and perpetuates artificial changes in the female body. Some modifications referenced in my sculpture include foot binding, genital mutilation, neck stretching, breast implants, and plastic surgery. These and other practices that change the shape of the female body provide a window through which one can investigate cultural practices, traditions, and definitions of beauty."

The college required that I post a disclaimer on the door to the show. Here is what happened:

OFFICIAL DISCLAIMER:

WARNING: This graduate show contains adult content, including nudity and graphic violence that some individuals may find offensive or upsetting. Discretion is advised.

NANCY'S DISCLAIMER:

WARNING: This graduate show contains material that may be upsetting to young children. Hopefully the practices referenced in the work will be upsetting and offensive to everyone.

The Bottles page contains God Bottle which have a tag which state:

"Write your problem on a piece of paper, fold the paper and insert it in the bottle. Be sure you are ready to give your problem to God, because the small neck will make it very difficult to get the problem back without breaking the Botella del Dios (God Bottle) "

The Glass page contains blown glass pieces. Most of these pieces are in groupings to make the space between them part of the piece.

The Teapot page contains teapots, many of which come from my Bound By Tradition series dealing with the practice of binding young girls feet in China before 1950.

The Platters page contain platters which are carved and decorated.

The Flowers page contains ceramic flowers with nichrome wire for stamens and beads. Some of the ceramic or glass beads are hand made by the artist. These pieces are whimsical and I hope you enjoy them.

The Other page contains pieces that do not fit into any other category.

The Garden page contains figurative sculpture for the garden.

The Wiggly page contains figurative drawings surrounded by writing. They are meant to be whimsical and are in a sense created or defined by the words which surround them

The Artist page contains information about the artist and the artist's work. .

The Contact Us page is self explanatory.
